Happy Birthday Shawn!!

As usual, Shawn's birthday was all about Star Wars. From my he got all 2 or the 3 original movies on DVD and a Darth Vader bobble head pen. We also wen to the Comedy Connection last night and saw Chris Porter. My mom gave him a big Darth Vader Pez (see horrible picture), a dashboard Darth Vader, a Darth Vader Bobble Head, and the last original SW movie on DVD.

All in all I think he had a good time. Happy 33rd!

I'm in love!

I get to borrow this for the next couple of months.....

NESP mailed it to me today and it took all my energy not to leave work right then and there. I was only able to take a few natural light pictures with it before it got dark. I can't wait to use this in Harvard Yard soon.

Here is the first picture I took with it.

Now I'm off to find a manual to download before I have to shoot with it tomorrow for Easton Youth Soccer.

I'm a big dork

This picture pretty much says it all. I stood in line (one that was longer than I thought it would be) at Walmart to get a picture and autograph from Jordan Knight. His new CD is ok. Nothing great. It's all covers for love songs. The highlight was actually that Jonathan Knight was there too. He was always my favorite. Time has not been good to him. :(

Where were you when the world stopped turning?

I still get choked up when I hear that song.
Somedays is seems like it was so long ago (b/c not much has changed) and other times it seems like it was yesterday (b/c the memories are still fresh and so much has changed).

I was at my desk and on the radio I heard that a plane had hit a building in NY. I kept thinking what a tragic accident it was and how it must have been a flight controller error or a pilot who had a heartattack. It never entered my mind that it was a deliberate act. Even when the second plan hit. To me, it was so close in time that I really thought it was someone who messed up flight paths. Also, by hearing it on the radio when you hear "hit" you think grazed. Not hit dead on.

I came out of my office and I told a couple of my coworkers. They were shocked but like myself, they didn't realize it was deliberate. When we got news of the Pentagon we knew it was deliberate. Almost all work stopped and we kept checking news websites for pictures and information. Ironically, the one website that was the easiest to get into and was providing the most information was BBC.com in England. That is where we saw our first pictures. It still wasn't dawning on all of us what it really meant.

Our boss came by after a while and said that we could all go home if we wanted to. Most of us were thinking, "Why? I have a lot of work to do." Then there were the people who were reminding us that we were in a 10 floor building (one of the larger ones in the area) and that we worked for the most recognizable Universities in the WORLD....Harvard. I called my mom and asked her if she knew and I told her I was ok. I called Shawn and had the same conversation. Then our boss told us it wasn't an option anymore. We HAD to go home.

When I got to my car at the train station I noticed that a lot of car were also leaving and it was still early afternoon. The toll collectors were waving us through and not charging us. When I got to my neighborhood everyone was outside talking to each other. This was rare. I found out that Matt Sullivan from next door worked in the Twin Towers and his family hadn't heard from him yet. (he was later found safe and sound. All the communications towers were jammed)

The rest of the day was spent watching TV and hearing about the other 2 crashes. At first I was reassured in the fact that I didn't know anyone who worked at the Twin Towers or in the Pentagon. Then I heard about Matt, then Ginny told me that Dawn had been bidding for a catering job at the Pentagon that morning, then later my mom and I ran into a high school friend of hers who's son worked in NY. They went and got him and drove him back to MA. He had the suit he was wearing that day with him. He cried looking at it. My mom's friend kept telling him that they would have it cleaned and it would be ok. He looked at her and said, "It's not just dust....it's people!!!" They decided to bury the suit.

A lot of things have changed. (airport security, personal security awareness, etc) But there are more things that changed for a little while but then reverted back (people's self absorption, greed, sense of entitlement, etc). Immediately afterward, everything was "God Bless America". But then a few months later people were back to their "political correctness" and wanted to take God out of the Pledge of Allegiance. That makes me the most sad when I look back. I wish we had all leaned more from this.

We will never forget!

My first weigh in

I'm sorry I didn't tell most of you before. (I hope you can forgive me) But I started Weight Watchers last week. I wanted to make sure I could do it before I told too many people. I am happy to report that I lost 4.6 lbs this week!!!!!

Before anyone gets too excited, I've lost these lbs before. I have a small hurdle to get over and once I do, then I really will be losing weight. I also know that what is lost in the first week isn't necessarily an indication of how your progress is going to be. But it's a start and I'm so excited. I really hope this keeps me motivated. I can't wait to (hopefully) get a 5 lb. reward next week.

What amazes me is that it hasn't been hard. I think a lot of it has to do with setting your mind to it. It's really my last shot. I HAVE to lose this weight...physically and emotionally.

Have to go fill up my water bottle. ;)

Pictures of the ROB

Hopefully this works... YAY! I figured out the secret.

This one is self explanatory.

This picture show a sampling of how many dresses they had

LOL!!! This dress had a ticket on it for $9,999.99 - Being sold for $699. It stood up on it's own so we had to take a funny picture.

And this last picture is of me and my BM, Melissa. My MOH couldn't make it but definitely next time! :)

And no, you don't get to see pictures of me in the hideous, too small for me, bad lighting dresses.

9 months

As of today, that's how much longer it is until the wedding.
My mom and I went shopping for her dress on saturday. We are starting early b/c we know that my mom will have a hard time finding something she likes. We think she will go with black. Maybe a tux looking skirt suit. He aren't having luck finding it though. Oh well. We will keep on searching.

I wanted to post more pictures of the ROB (Running of the Brides) but Blogger is being a Boob. I'll try again soon.

I survived....

I've always wanted to go to the Filene's Basement Dress sale. My mom and grandmother and I used to go to Filene's Basement in Boston at least twice a month if not more. So it seemed natural that I'd want to go.

unfortunately, I'm not in the right place (weight wise) to buy a dress right now. But I had to go anyway. It seemed like too much fun. So Melissa and I went around 10am. It was so fun. It was even more fun after I tried on my first dress and lost the "Oh shit!!" look on my face. Melissa says that it only gets worse after they slap a veil on you. Oh dear!!

So of course I didn't find a dress but I wasn't really there to do that. It was just to say that I went. But if you were a wedding dress size 10 (so a street size of about 6 or 8 ) you had your pick of dresses. Every dress I was remotely interested in was a size 10. I tried on a Yolanda dress that was supposedly $9,999.99 for $699.99. $10k didn't feel like I thought it would. ;)

Blogger won't let me upload any more pictures. Maybe I'll try in another post.

If it wasn't my life I wouldn't believe it.....

Friday Ginny had her double mastectomy. Everything went great. They removed both of them, took a biopsy of the "healthy" one, and filled everything in with tissue from her stomach. Boob job and tummy tuck! I visited her Saturday and she was great. I stayed for 2 hours b/c she wouldn't shut up. She was in some pain and showed it. It had to be really bad if she showed it b/c she has a high tolerance.
Saturday night Shawn and I went to Barmakian to look at rings. I just wanted to get an idea of what's out there just in case I fell in love with something b/c MA is having a tax free weekend next weekend. We got an idea of prices and what's out there. So far we haven't liked anything as much as some that we've seen online. Then we went to the sushi buffet in Natick. YUM!!! I tried to go tot David's bridal but they closed the minute I walked in. Boooooo!! I did see a dress that I LOVED in the window. I took pictures of it but I don't know how well they came out.
Sunday I was going to spend with my mom. She called me and told me to throw on clothes and meet her at her house. I guess my cousin, Billy (godmother, Nancie's, son) got into a motorcycle accident and lost his leg. Un-Believable!!!! He is about 25. My godmother has been through a lot of crap in the past couple of years. Her mom died, then her husband died (motorcycle accident), then her dad died, then her youngest son had a motorcycle accident and almost died but was *just* in a coma for a while, now her oldest son lost his leg in a motorcycle accident. Oh, and 2 weeks ago, her brother and her uncle died w/i a day of each other. Can you believe this?!?! I wouldn't if I didn't know her. I told my mom that my godmother needed to away to an island and not look back. So between all of that and allergies, I've had a migraine for 3 days. I couldn't go to work yesterday because of it. Today is better. I still have a headache but I can function (slowly).

PreCana...

was GREAT!!!!

I can't believe I'm actually going to say this but I really enjoyed it. Maybe not some of the specific (cheesy) things and definitely not the older, monotone couple that spoke during the first half. . But definitely the meaning behind it all and the fact that Shawn and I really communicated and I got to hear what he's feeling. I also could have done without Shawn telling a room full of strangers our nicknames for each other, but that's another story.
I was really dreading it going in. I thought it was going to be very God-centric and that Shawn was going to clam up. It was actually more like couples therapy. I recommend it to anyone. It was definitely nice to know that others are feeling the same thing you are (good or bad) and that sometimes your fiance is also thinking the same way.
I actually wish it was longer and we were made to talk about more things. Guess I'll have to corral him and try to do it on our own. We had to write betrothal statements. I'm keeping ours forever.
When we got back, we were really feeling the love for each other and then he was like, "Ok, gotta go shoot (paintball) people." um, ok

But I have already seen some positive effects. We walked to 7-11 that night and held hands the whole way there and back. I hope it lasts...at least for a little while.

Of course I made sure I took pictures of the grounds and had someone take our picture while we were there.

off to work on my "Golden Eggs".

Starting over

I'm in a purging mood. Not the throwing up kind, the throwing OUT kind. I wish I could go into my closet and (with a few exceptions) throw everything out and start over. Then I would do the same with all the crap that is in my craft room. I would donate the clothes to a worth cause. I probably wouldn't do the same with the craft stuff...maybe. But that's part of what got me into this mess in the first place. I had little piles all over the place of ....I'll give "so and so" this stuff and "so and so" that stuff. UGH!!! I want it all gone. I don't want to look through it. I just want to chuck it all. The stuff I've been using is in my front room or in my car so I know I wouldn't be getting rid of anything good (kwim).
I may try to tackle a closet tonight (yes, I have 2). There are outfits in there that I keep saying "Someday they will fit again." They are now out of style. Other things don't fit but are classic items. I have to think about those. It's nice to think, "When I reach my goal weight I'll buy all new stuff" but that would be VERY expensive.
The mess is just an overwhelming thought for me right now so that's where the idea of purging came from. Get rid of it all and not look at it. It makes it sound so much easier than going through everything and trying to find a place of it.

It's just an idea. I'm not married to it yet. ;)

Can I have a do over for this week?

Nothing specifically has happened to me but the people around me keep falling apart...or worse.

I had a great time at SDV. I got a lot done towards my Christmas gifts for the relatives (I'll post pics later). Laughed and ate a lot, slept very little. All in all a good time.
Sunday I hear from my mom that one of her cousin's passed away that day. Pretty young guy (53) but lots of health problems - Diabetes, heart problems, amputated legs, etc. His quality of life was not good recently so he is probably better off.
Yesterday we got a call from Shawn's mom. (she hardly ever calls) She was calling to tell us that Shawn's Dad was coming home from the Cape (he had a multi week job there). The reason he was coming back was that he cut the top of his right index finger off. As I'm listening to the voicemail I'm thinking, "Ok, just a little slice." NO!!! He cut so far down that they had to cut some of his finger bone so that they could make a flap to close up his finger! He is about 1.5 - 2 years away from retirement. Shawn called them back and found out that he was ok right now and will be out of work for at least a month. His stupid ass company asked if he would be able to do "light work". That way they wouldn't have to pay for Worker's Comp. Asshats!!!

So, it's only Tuesday and I really think I'd like to forget about this whole week.

It's the small things that amuse me

ok, I know it's been a while since I posted and I haven't led a totally boring life since my last post. Oh well, I guess I'll blog about those things another time b/c I don't feel like it today. ;)

Today I want to share the newest thing I found on my photo editing software. These are all the same picture but just different filters used on them.
So I guess you really can't believe any picture you see (online, in a magazine, etc.) b/c it's so easy to change them. :(
The subject/victim is Nevin. He is (ready for it?) Ginny's brother's girlfriend's great grandson. THAT'S a mouthful!!!

Sunburn filter

Blonde filter (???)

He was the cutest kid and let me take a bunch of pictures of him. He loved it.

11 months today

it's exactly 11 months until my wedding. I think I just got sick to my stomach.
So much to do!!!!
Florist (bouquets, centerpieces, church flowers)
DRESS
Bridesmaid's dresses
Mom's dress
Tux's
Rings
Shawn has to finalize the DJ (this is making me VERY nervous)
Plan honeymoon
LOSE WEIGHT!!

I'm sure there is much more but those are the things I can think of off the top of my head. I'll get it all done in time right? Millions of other people have done it in way less time. I'll be ok.....I hope.

Here are a couple of ideas that I have for the wedding....

Hmmm, I guess those are all flower ideas. I have to start thinking of some other stuff too.

I hate being the new guy

ok, just a whiny post.

I started the 8.9 upgrade project on monday. I'm on loan to IMS in a different building than my actual job. I'll be here until the end of the year at least.
So they were going out to lunch b/c Lisa is going on maternity leave soon.
They sent out an invite in our calendars and I replied yes. Keep in mind, I've known these people for years, just never worked in their dept. 12pm came and they all left for the lunch. They forgot about me. :( I guess I could have followed them to the restaurant and showed up alone but that would have been awkward. I'd have to find where they were sitting and hope that there was room for me.

I'm just bummed. I wore something nice and didn't bring lunch today. I had to go out in the pouring rain for some crappy food.

ok, I'm done complaining....I think. ;)

6/6/06

Ok, so it's cheesy but I had to use it as the title. It's a semi historic day. And a little creepy.

Yesterday was exciting and crappy. I started working on the upgrade project so I moved over to 124 Mt Auburn. I am in cube hell. I'm used to my nice office with a big window and happy people with personalities. Now I'm in a dull environment which is made worse by the fact that everything is beige.
Desktop
walls
overhead cabinet
file drawers
computer

I thought I was going to have an aneurysm! ;) And I had a stationary chair. If I wanted to move to another part of the desk I had to pick the chair up. UGH!

Today is looking much better. I finally have a rolly chair. It's disgusting and old but it moves. I brought in my pictures so I have Shawn and Bazzill staring at me. And I remembered my tunes so I have a little noise distraction too. Ahhhhhhh, much better. Now, if I could get rid of the sinus headache it would be heaven. Hoping to do that at lunch.

The picture I have on my desk of me and Shawn is a skinny picture. I'[m hoping it will motivate me a little more. I'm definitely in crunch time and things aren't going well. I only have a little more than 11 months and I really should order my dress at the 8-9 month mark. So, although it sounds like a long ways away....IT'S NOT!!!!

Ok, don't want to make this headache worse.

Ciao!
